Wangaratta Medical Centre

Wangaratta Medical Centre

Wangaratta Medical Centre is a community-oriented practice, focussed on providing a range of quality healthcare services to the local area.

The practice has six doctors and three nurses, with the GPs having full visiting rights to Northeast Health Wangaratta, Wangaratta Private Hospital, Beechworth Health services and all local aged and care facilities.

Practice Principal Dr Paul Molina Chavez has been a GP at the clinic for seven years. With interests in womens’ health, mens’ health, palliative care, skin cancer surgery and chronic disease, he enjoys the opportunity to practice special interests and pass on knowledge to trainees. He and his colleagues at Wangaratta have been involved in medical education throughout their careers.

“The lead clinicians are experienced GP supervisors, medical educators, college examiners and have significant interest in medical education and assessments. Because of their vast experience, registrars have the opportunity to grow and build [their] skills with clinical support and mentoring.” (Dr Paul Molina Chavez)

Registrars at the clinic see a range of demographics and conditions; from babies to elderly, patients with chronic disease, acute illness and mental health needs. This, plus the commitment of the clinic staff to professional development and training, means registrars gain a variety of skills during their placement.

“The centre is a very organised and supportive practice with many opportunities for learning. (It also trains)…medical students and I have found teaching enjoyable too.” (Dr Megan Dynan)

“(The practice)..is very supportive to their registrars’ teaching, supervision and mental wellbeing. The staff are great to work with. The patient population offers the opportunity for good exposure to different pathologies. It is a family-orientated clinic and I was well supported….I highly recommend this practice for future registrars.” (Dr Diana Gaitan)
