Additional Practice Benefits:

You will get to work with a fantastic team of doctors, nurses and support staff in a friendly and well organized Medical Centre.

Romsey is a country town of approx 6,500 people in the Macedon Ranges, an area of outstanding natural beauty of green rolling hills, farms, vineyards and features such as Mt. Macedon and Hanging Rock.  It’s an easy 45 minute drive to Melbourne CBD and close to the epicurean centres of Kyneton and Woodend. Romsey is a microcosm of the Australian population with a mix of young families, elderly, tradespeople and professionals many of whom work in Melbourne and its northern suburbs. The area was traditionally a lamb raising and potato growing area but now boasts vineyards, race horse studs and training facilities and beef cattle farms. A thriving farmers’ market takes place in nearby Lancefield once per month. The town is undergoing a period of rapid growth with the development of prestigious housing developments on the southern edge of the town.

Romsey Medical is in the middle of town in a purpose-built centre featuring 8 consultation rooms, treatment room, small operating theatre, nurse room and pathology centre. Five full time GPs work here assisted by a full time equivalent nurse. The centre prides itself on its collegiate and supportive philosophy and the doctors meet over lunch once per week for a joint clinical, administrative and social meeting.  Dr Noel Cunningham is the GP supervisor but all the doctors take part in supporting and training of registrars. They have varied interests including paediatrics, women’s health, men’s health, mental health, surgical treatment of skin cancer, addiction medicine, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and chronic disease management. Our allied health team includes a physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, dietician, diabetes educator and psychologists. In addition, we provide exercise therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation at our allied health centre in Lancefield. A visiting cardiologist, a general surgeon and a urologist complete our medical team. All our staff are friendly and personable and welcome GP registrars.

Romsey Medical is a mixed billing practice but all our employed registrars bulk bill all their patients in order to guarantee you the opportunity to see a wide variety of patients and presentations.  If you were to stay on after your term, we would encourage you to gradually introduce mixed billing.  We prefer GPT3 and GPT4 registrars as it suits Dr Cunningham’s availability.  Doctors working in Romsey qualify for GPRIP payments increasing from $12,000 in the second year of rural practice to $23,000 after 5 years.  Romsey is in an area of workforce shortage and is suitable for doctors working under a moratorium.

If you are looking for a friendly, medium size GP practice close to Melbourne where the doctors and staff work together to provide the best possible patient care, you should consider applying to Romsey Medical. We look forward to you joining our vibrant team.
