Being placed at OMC provided me with a really well rounded experience of GP, ED and Nursing Home care. Though initially the concept of this broad work made me a little nervous I found that the great support by the staff at OMC and 24/7 from tertiary hospitals meant that this Registrar placement was a formative experience and one I would highly recommend.
,Working at Otway Medical Clinic as a registrar was the highlight of my GP training. The exposure to acute medicine both in the clinic and through the hospital was really rewarding and the diversity seen at the clinic was invaluable in my examination preparation and General Practice learning.
Above all however, the reason I loved Otway Medical Clinic so much was because of the people. The staff at the clinic both medical and reception are so kind, obliging and will always look out for you. The doctors were always free to answer questions, give advice and help you out in anyway. It was fulfilling feeling part of the Colac community, a community that is so accommodating and genuine. I would highly recommend working at Otway Medical Clinic, a highly supportive, well organised practice that offers amazing learning opportunities and a sense of family.
,I completed my GPT1 and 2 placements at the Otway Medical Centre working full time for 12 months and I cannot recommend the clinic highly enough. The clinic provided a great transition from hospital to clinic life.
The hospital work through the Colac Urgent Care and medical ward rounds helped me maintain clinical skills and provided interesting variety to the week. Colac is a small town with plenty of diversity in patient presentations. The patient base at the Otway clinic gave me exposure to all the core general practice competencies so I was well prepared for the RACGP exams due to my time there. .
The nursing and reception staff are great and a pleasure to work with and Di is a fantastic practice manager, she really makes your life easier as a registrar and I found it very easy to arrange time off for study or training.
Justin, George and Mira were very supportive supervisors. Always happy to help and give advice but equally happy to let you work at your own level of independence.,
