MMC offers the best of both worlds: advanced and thorough treatment with the character & spirit of a rural community. Located along the Goulburn River, the Murchison Medical Clinic is a premiere rural teaching clinic. We serve a diverse patient population of approximately 2000 in a town of 980 residents. MMC has clean, spacious modern facilities and invests in the use of current technology and equipment. We participate in clinical trials so we can bring more effective strategies and treatments to our patients. For 2020-21 we will be doing some innovative work with heart health including remote patient monitoring and chronic condition management and prevention.
MMC has been weathering the COVID-19 pandemic well with a high standard of infection control procedures, adequate supply of PPE, use of telephone and telehealth visits. A marquee was erected at the back of the clinic to provide a drive thru service including testing and vaccinations.
We have supervised medical students for many years, and this is our third year seeking a registrar with a sincere and long-term interest in working and living in the area. We thoroughly enjoy working with and supporting the training of our registrars.
MMC is has a large indigenous patients population and is actively involved in Closing the Gap and the ITC programs. Our clinic advocates for changes government programs to improve access to care and support for indigenous patients. The clinic runs a successful Methadone program and draws patients from as far away as Melbourne because of the way patients are treated here.
Our goal is to improve holistic preventative health and help patients to take charge of their health when dealing with chronic conditions, obesity and the challenges of low socio-economic conditions.
