Located along the Goulburn River, the Murchison Medical Clinic is a premiere rural teaching clinic serving a diverse patient population of more than 1600 in a town of 980 residents. Attracting patients from two hours away or more, to be seen by our clinicians in a caring and professional environment.
We strive to utilise advances in technology and participate in clinical trials so we can bring more effective strategies and treatments to our patients. Along those lines, MMC was awarded a Dept. of Health Rural GP grant allowing us to expand consult rooms, purchase state of the art equipment for telehealth consults and remote training purposes expanding our capacity as a teaching clinic. We have now completed minor renovations that added another consult room, a training room and additional state of art teleconferencing equipment so that we are poised to supervise medical students and registrars for years to come. While we have supervised medical students for many years, we are now seeking a registrar with a sincere and long-term interest in working and living in the area.
MMC is the second largest medical provider for indigenous patients in the area. Our clinic advocates for changes government programs to improve access to care and support for indigenous patients.
The clinic runs a successful Methadone program and draws patients from as far away as Melbourne because of the way patients are treated here.
Our goal is to improve holistic preventative health and help patients to take charge of their health when dealing with chronic conditions, obesity and the challenges of low socio-economic conditions.
While we know we always have ways to improve, we believe that MMC offers the best of both worlds: advanced and thorough treatment with the character & spirit of a rural community.
