Hampstead Medical was an excellent clinic for me during my GPT2 rotation. It is a modern medical centre with excellent equipment, facilities and technology.
I have found that the culture of a medical clinic is key in determining the success of a GP term and the culture at Hampstead Medical cannot be spoken about highly enough. Both the clinical and non-clinical staff were very supportive and keen to ensure you can maximise your learning opportunities. You will feel part of the team from your first day at the clinic and the friendly environment helps you settle in very quickly. In particular, the supervisors are great and always make the time to help out whenever required. Their level of support was amazing and you are never left without assistance when required. There is also a strong emphasis on teaching which is of very high quality.
There is a wide variety of patients, and you are always encouraged and supported to challenge yourself with new procedures and exposure to new patient presentations. The practice will actively try and book things that you want to see if there is a special interest or if you want more experience in areas that you may not have had much exposure to. I was able to develop my skills and confidence in a wide variety of presentations and across a range of procedures during my term, which has been invaluable during my subsequent placements.
I look back at my term very fondly and cannot recommend it more highly for registrars at any level of training. It really is a fantastic clinic that helped me greatly develop my general practice skills during my term. It’s the type of clinic you will want to stay at after your term has finished!
Coming into Hampstead Medical as a GPT1 could not have been more welcoming and smooth from several hospital training years.
I can highly recommend not only the supervisor, but all clinic staff in their commitment to my learning and transition into GP training. The level of professionalism, expertise and efficiency, combined with a friendly, approachable demeanour and a strong commitment to teaching has set a very high standard. These high standards have also translated to a high degree of patient satisfaction.
All clinic and allied staff have also been very welcoming and accommodating for my teaching preferences. There has been a consistent commitment to education from always being available for questions, ensuring that I am well equipped with consults and communication with MCCC about ongoing updates with the training programme.
Fortunately, I have also had the opportunity to practice several procedures. Not only is the equipment available of a high standard, the level of guidance from the supervisor and practice nurses has assisted in developing my confidence for Implanon insertion and removal, abscess drainage, immunizations and foreign body removal.
With the challenges presenting during this pandemic, all clinic staff and the supervisor have taken very cautious steps to ensure everyone, including myself are kept safe. Not once did I encounter a situation where I did not feel secure or unsupported.
As the clinic's first GPT1, without exaggeration, I cannot fault any aspect of Hampstead Medical and would wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to any GP trainee.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hampstead Medical and would recommend Hampstead to any registrar. I felt very lucky to complete a term here with a very friendly, accommodating and a professional team. As a GPT1 I was well supported by both clinical and administrative staff in my transition from the hospital to General Practice.
The clinical opportunities at Hampstead are great with a wide mix of patient presentations to learn from and I had the opportunity to learn and practice procedures such as skin biopsies, immunisations and skin lesion removals. The teaching at Hampstead is excellent with dedicated weekly teaching time which incorporated sessions focusing on common General Practice topics, practical skills sessions and cased base discussions. The team are always willing to help and are always available to answer any questions and assisted me when needed.
I would highly recommend Hampstead Medical and thank you to the team for a such a great beginning to my time in General Practice.
