Echuca Moama Family Medical Practice – Echuca

Overview

Echuca Moama Family Medical Practice has been supporting the Echuca Moama community for nearly 45 years. We currently have 18 GP’s consulting from our rooms. We are committed to providing quality healthcare to the rural community in a professional caring and compassionate manner. Our operating values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration and Excellence guide all our interactions and are the measures to which we hold ourselves.

Since opening in 1975 as Nish Street Medical Practice we have undergone several expansions in a bid to provide better facilities and more room for our patients. Operating from 2 clinics our aim is to maintain the feel of a local family practice whilst providing the highest level of medical care. Our Moama clinic services the community of Moama on the NSW side of the Murray River. In 2012 we opened a new purpose built teaching practice in Echuca on the Victorian side of the Murray river offering a working environment of 14 consulting rooms, a 4 bed treatment room and contemporary patient waiting area that encourages our staff to develop strong relationships with patients. This helps us provide better health care and provide an optimal teaching environment for our GP’s in the education of the Medical Students, Interns and Registrars that we have placed with us each year.

Echuca Moama Family Medical Practice has a long history of providing training to students of the medical field, we remain committed to continuing this and developing medical practitioners that have a focus on quality patient care. Our strong relations with Echuca Regional Health allows us to offer our GP’s opportunities to undertake hospital work, specialisations in Obstetrics, Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine  as well as Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) appointments.

A variety of educational sessions are available for continuing medical education including regular lectures, trauma medicine tutorials and regular journal club meetings covering a broad range of rural medical topics and providing peer support. With close proximity to Bendigo and Shepparton we also have access to regional educations sessions and meetings.

Echuca is a town located on the banks of the Murray River and Campaspe River in VictoriaAustralia. The border town of Moama is adjacent on the northern side of the Murray River in New South Wales. Echuca has a population of over 13,000.[1] The population of the combined Echuca and Moama townships was estimated be in excess of 20,000 at June 2016.

Echuca is a 2 hour drive from Melbourne and is approximately 50 minutes by road from the major provincial centres of Shepparton and Bendigo.

The practice is GP owned and has been a part of the community for over 40 years – it is very well trusted amongst the local and surrounding population.  The practice is open from Monday to Friday with two sessions per day.  A morning session from 9am -1pm and an afternoon session from 2pm to 5:30pm. Saturdays mornings are rostered, the doctor conducts consultations at the clinic from 10am – 12pm. As it is a rural practice, we are strongly affiliated with the local hospital with opportunities to be involved with inpatient, urgent care, obstetrics, anaesthetic and aged care.
