As a GP registrar, you will be working in a supportive clinic environment. Corowa Medical Centre is an accredited teaching practice and involved in the teaching of Medical Students and post-graduate education (GP Registrar).
Corowa Medical Centre has been serving the region for over 100 years. Initially started in 1910 by Dr Barnard. In 1978 the purpose-built rooms were established on the location that we still occupy.
Corowa Medical Centre has continued to grow, reflecting the ongoing patient health focus. A number of major renovations have been carried out to expand the Centre over the years, and with this growth, additional Doctors and have joined the practice. This has allowed us to provide a range of health services to the surrounding communities.
Providing much needed medical services to the cross-border region of Corowa Rutherglen has always been the priority of our Doctors and will continue to be into the future.

The modern, purpose built facility has three treatment rooms that is used for general family medicine, lesions and other minor surgery, wound management, ECGs, immunisations and health assessments. We have several members of the nursing team, with a dedicated Chronic Disease Management Nurse, and a Nurse for the coordination of he needs of our DVA patients.

During your training period, you’ll get all the support you need from our highly experienced medical educators and GP supervisors.
The medical center is co-located with community health and the Corowa Hospital. All doctors are on the VMO roster at the Corowa Hospital and participate in the after hours on-call roster with a commitment of 1:8 to 1:12. You will always be rostered on with a Senior Doctor whilst you are on call.
|Practice opening hours||Monday - Friday 9 am - 5.30 pm, Saturday Sunday and Public Holidays have Short emergency clinics which the On-call Doctors will cover.|
|College Requirements||Full time training requires 38 hrs per week employed averaged over 4 weeks. Less than 38 hours per week employed is part time training.|
|Saturday and Sunday work||Short Emergency clinic from 9.30 am- 11am Saturday, and 9.30am-10.30am Sunday Doctors are rostered to attend this Clinic|
|On-call work||1:8 Roster, We ensure that there are always 2 VMO's on call, and our registrars are always rostered on with a Senior Doctor|
Out of practice visits
Nursing Home Visits- Corowa Medical Centre provides care to all patients at the Corowa Nursing Home, which is co-located with the medical centre and Southern Cross Care, which is less then a kilometre away from the medical centre.
Public holiday work
Public holidays worked rostered and are shared among all our VMO’s throughout the year.

Nestled on the banks of the Murray River, Corowa is a classic country town, where people genuinely care about their community. The birthplace of Australian Federation, Corowa is 609km south-west of Sydney, 299km north of Melbourne and an hour west of Albury.
There is a wealth of history to uncover in Corowa about rural life and politics in 19th-century Australia. In 1893, the historic Federation Conference took place here, paving the way for Australia’s first national government and Corowa has many fine examples of traditional 19th century architecture that are easy to explore..
If you are interested in Australian history, taking a self guided tour around the town or just relaxing on the beautiful banks of the Mighty Murray River. Corowa is close to the foothills of the snow resorts.
Other activities include golf, tennis, bowling, horseracing, fishing, rowing, an abundance of water sports and sky diving just to name a few.
There are also local wineries to tour in Corowa and the surrounding area of Rutherglen.

Tertiary- Charles Sturt University and Latrobe University are approximately 40 minutes away in Albury, and local TAFE in Corowa which has a variety of courses available
