Registrar Extension awards are NOW OPEN

Awards close midnight Monday 16 May 2022.

MCCC GP registrars and newly fellowed GPs – are you at Training Term 3 or beyond? (Including GPs who have fellowed since October 2021).

Have you performed at an exceptionally high standard throughout your GP training? Read on for more information.

Eligibility requirements and application process

This award is designed to help you further enhance and extend your skills.

It will reimburse your costs (up to the value of $2,000*) in developing these advanced and extended skills. There are six awards available this year – four in this semester and two in the second.

To apply you must:

  • Be at Training Term level 3 or beyond– including GPs who have fellowed since October 2021
  • Meet specific criteria detailed below and
  • Submit up to 1000 words to support your application.

Your submission should explain how the award will be used to extend your learning by offering enhanced care to your patients and/or the community.

Examples of this are:

  • Healthcare/education conferences (as applicable due to any COVID-19 restrictions)
  • Undertake a research project
  • Undertake additional training/qualification in a medically related area.

You will need to have achieved at least two of the following:

  • ‘Above expected’ in more than half of the Initial Assessment activities
  • ‘Above expected’ in more than half of the Further Assessment activities
  • Top band in RACGP AKT
  • Top band in RACGP KFP
  • Nominated as future candidate as REST Instructor at completion of REST course with MCCC
  • Performance band 1 for 80% or above in both patient and colleague feedback in MSF and complete the activity successfully
  • Achieve 4 ranking in Overall Impression in PC Stamps results in at least 6 of the 8 stations.
  • Three or more ECTVs assessed as ‘Above expected’ overall
  • Three or more supervisor reports assessed as ‘Above expected’

All applicants who meet the required criteria will receive a certificate of recognition of their efforts in performing at an exceptionally high level during their GP training. Winners will receive a glass plaque and the reimbursement of costs up to $2,000*.

Our 2021.1 winners

We are pleased to announce the winners of our registrar extension awards for 2021 – Dr Sarah Lim, Dr Mardi Beck, Dr Daniel Wong and Dr Clare Matheson.
We congratulate the winners for their outstanding level of performance as a GP registrar and for their demonstrated commitment to enhancing care for their patients and community.

Dr Sarah Lim

Dr Sarah Lim received a 2021.1 registrar extension award in recognition of her enthusiasm and commitment to caring for her local community.

Sarah is currently training at both Strathfieldsaye Primary Health and Bendigo Community Health Services. She is focused on providing appropriate care to the LGBTIQ+ community and she aspires to become a rural generalist.

Dr Mardi Beck

In this acceptance video, Dr Mardi Beck describes her plans to use her registrar extension award to fund participation in the Leadership for Clinicians course. The course will help her develop her knowledge, skills and confidence to effect change in supporting healthcare services.

Mardi is our Registrar Liaison Officer for the Metro West region — she supports her fellow registrars and acts a liaison between registrars and MCCC.

Dr Daniel Wong

We were very pleased to present Dr Daniel Wong with one of our registrar extension awards for 2021.

Daniel highlights selecting areas of work he is passionate about as one of the many reasons he chose to become a GP.

Daniel is planning to use the award funds to attend the AusPATH 2021 conference, developing his skills and knowledge in the area of trans health.

Dr Clare Matheson

We’re very happy to announce Dr Clare Matheson as one of the winners in our 2021 registrar extension awards.

Clare is final term registrar in our Metro West region. She is passionate about general practice for the involvement with the community it offers.

She has recent experience working in the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre and intends to use the funds from her award win to pursue opportunities that further her work in women’s and sexual health.
