- Each GP registrar involved in the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) programme requires a Medicare Provider Number that is allocated by the Department of Health.
- Medicare Provider Numbers (MPNs) allow patients to claim Medicare rebate services for the services GPs provide at practices. GPs can use MPNs to raise referrals for specialist services, make requests for pathology or diagnostic imaging services and attract Medicare rebates.
- The Health Department is introducing a new process for approving the placement of GP Registrars and allocating individual Medicare Provider Numbers.
MCCC will send your practice a pre-populated placement/provider form for each of your 2017 registrars.
The pre-populated forms are ONLY being emailed to the practice manager, not to the registrar. We ask for your assistance in completing these forms, by coordinating their completion between your registrar, your supervisor and yourself and then returning them to MCCC.
Practices involved in the current 2017 practice match will receive the Placement/Provider number form for their new registrar when the match is finalised and the practice is notified. We expect this be completed in mid November.
