Message From Interim Chair

Dear all,

I am delighted to advise that the Department of Health has today announced the selection of Murray City Country Coast GP Training to deliver the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT)
program in the new Western Victoria training region from 1 January 2016.

Murray City Country Coast GP Training (MCCC) is an exciting new partnership that brings together the experience and proven track records of Bogong GP Training, Southern GP Training and the
Victorian Metropolitan Alliance who jointly submitted a tender for delivery of specialist GP training in the new region.

I would like to sincerely thank all who contributed to development of the tender submission which has now come to fruition with notification from the Minister.

By working together we have succeeded in securing a GP training model that will retain much of the local ownership each of the current RTPs has worked so hard to attain.

Importantly, GP Supervisors and accredited GP teaching practices will remain the ‘heartbeat’ of General Practice training, providing quality teaching, mentoring and support for GP registrars
undertaking the Australian General Practice Training program.

We are now in a transition and establishment phase, with much work and some challenges ahead to ensure that MCCC is up and running by 1 January.

Governance is a critical component and the three RTPs coming together to establish MCCC will soon hold a Special General Meeting to establish a constitution.

MCCC has appointed a CEO, Mr Greg McMeel, a Director of Medical Education & Training, Dr Angelina Salamone, and Chief Operations Officer, Ms Linda Moon. This team will work closely with
existing Supervisors, GP Registrars, Medical Educators, Practice Managers and RTP staff to lead the establishment of our new organisation and ensure a smooth transition to the new GP training
arrangements. We will work hard to make the transition as smooth as possible and commit to being transparent, communicating frequently and working with all our partners to implement any changes.

I look forward to your support and contribution as we move towards a new era in GP training.

Dr Graeme Jones, MBBS, FRACGP, GAICD
