Melbourne Sexual Health Centre
Alfred Health’s Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC) is the major public service provider for the diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections in Victoria. It is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in STI research and innovation. The service has a team of over 100 staff including sexual health physicians and sexual health nurses, as well as a large outpatient HIV service, onsite pharmacy and laboratory.
“Bacterial sexually transmitted infections such as syphilis and gonorrhoea are on the rise across Victoria and testing and treatment is a key part of control of these infections in the community. At MSHC, registrars will gain in-depth experience in the management of these and other infections. We have a focus on epidemiology and public health as well as state of the art management of STIs and HIV prevention.” (Assoc. Prof. Marcus Chen)
The centre offers six-month registrar rotations tailored to GP trainees wishing to undertake a special skills post. During this term, registrars are exposed to a wide range of sexual health cases including all common STIs. Registrars have access to a team of experienced and skilled doctors and nurses during their placement.
