Dhauwurd Wurrung Elderly & Community Health Service is located in Portland. The area is rich in Aboriginal culture – Gunditjmara country is a culture that is over 60,000 years old and recently recognized with a world heritage listing – Budj Bim Cultural Landscape.
The service provides a holistic health service to the Aboriginal community of Portland and surrounding areas. The service covers the local LGA area of Glenelg, which is located on traditional lands of the Gunditjmara people. Primarily an Aboriginal health service, we also provide a medical service to non indigenous clients.
Portland is located on the far south-west coast of Victoria, mid-way between Port Fairy and the small town of Nelson which is adjacent to the state border with South Australia. Renowned for its world-famous beaches and tourist attractions Portland also has a range of leisure and sporting activities. The Portland Cable Tram offers visitors a scenic and informative journey through the foreshore, providing views along the coast and showcasing historic bluestone buildings and a range of attractions on the way. South of Portland is Cape Nelson which includes a 210 hectare state park bordering rugged cliffs with the Cape Nelson Lighthouse located on the coast’s southern tip.
