Registrar extension awards
The successful winners of this new award for high achieving registrars were Dr Samuel Craven and Dr Alyssa Vass (pictured). The awards were recently celebrated at a stakeholder and engagement dinner with MCCC staff, board members and North West GP supervisors in attendance. A highlight of the night was the GP panel where our registrars discussed the challenges and rewards of working in general practice. The panel was made up of Dr Samuel Craven, Dr Dan Wilson, Dr Nikhil Puppala, Dr Alyssa Vass, Dr Joshua Saunders and Dr Hisam Zraika (pictured).
Registrar community engagement awards
All practices were invited to nominate eligible GP registrars for this registrar community engagement award for service, above and beyond, to their local training community. The successful winners were Dr Emma Haugh from Campaspe Family Practice Kyneton (not in attendance) Dr Hisam Zraika of Kialla and Mooroopna Medical Clinics and Dr Joshua Saunders of Springs Medical in Daylesford. These awards were also celebrated at the recent stakeholder and engagement dinner.
Dr Emma Haugh was nominated for her involvement in local community sporting clubs as First Aid officer and providing education around drug addition to support a stronger, healthier community. Emma was involved in the pilot GP in Schools Program in 2017 with Kyneton Secondary College – this program is now available in 100 schools across Victoria. Emma also provides on-call GP services to the local community.
Dr Hisam Zraika received his award for his commitment to pharmacotherapy and treatment of mental health issues in the community.
Dr Josh Saunders was nominated for his involvement with Daylesford Secondary College Youth Wellness Clinic and engagement with the Student Wellbeing Team at the college.

The MCCC Board also took the opportunity at the stakeholder and engagement dinner to recognise four practices within the north west region. These practices have been training general practice registrars for in excess of 25 years. Their service to general practice training in their local communities was celebrated with commemorative certificates awarded by MCCC’s CEO, Greg McMeel (pictured).
